The Mississippi house votes twice to establish a state lottery which would deliver half of its financing to public education and road maintenance.

However, the effort is likely to be squashed in the senate.

A lottery amendment was added to as senate bill which would set rules for online fantasy sports contests.

Another amendment was added to a different to senate bill that was originally written to revise pay for supervisors of charity bingo games.

In 1992, voters of the magnolia state chose to legalize the possibility of a state lottery, but many legislators opposed the idea due to religious reasons.
