If you are planning on gator hunting this season, we have some important information for you.
The time to purchase an alligator public water permit is tomorrow, starting at 9 a.m. There will only be 920 permits available on a first come, first serve basis.
The Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries and Parks tells News 25 there are some pre-requisites that gator hunters need to look over on the department’s website.
Allan Adams, owner of Gulf Coast Gator Ranch and Tours, tells News 25 the best time to hunt for alligators is at night. “They use a light and the alligator’s eyes will shine red and looking at two red bullets, but kind of eerie at night. What they do is they cast hooks on them and try to grab them and once they got them hooked, slowly try to get them to the boat.”
The Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries and Parks tells News 25 last year they sold out of permits within the first 45 minutes.
The ten day season begins August 26th. Permits are only available online at https://www.ms.gov/mdwfp/alligator.
