One man is dead after a seven vehicle pileup involving two 18-wheelers on I-10 in Moss Point this afternoon.
Traffic on Interstate 10 over Highway 613 was at a standstill in the eastbound lanes as the Moss Point Police Department and several other agencies worked the scene. Investigators believe the man, who was driving a pickup truck, got stuck in between two 18-wheelers before being pushed off the bridge on to the road down below. He was ejected from the vehicle and killed. Police say a dog died as a result of the accident as well.
They believe slowed traffic a few miles east was a factor in the wreck. Moss Point PD Patrol Commander Lieutenant Henry Bouganim said, “There was actually another accident just outside our jurisdiction that had traffic slowed down. I believe that’s actually what the cause of it was. We had a little bit of diesel spilled on the roadway from the 18-wheeler. They’ve got to clean that up because it’s really slick and they have to make sure that the road is structurally ready for other passengers.”
Mississippi Highway Patrol, Gautier Police Department, Jackson County Sheriff’s Office, Moss Point Fire Department and the Moss Point School Resource Police all assisted at the scene.
