Tonight in Vancleave, a bit of confusion took a town hall meeting off course.
Residents came out with questions and concerns about the Highway 57 bypass which has been in the planning stages for years. Many had to give up land for the bypass and now the project has been halted due to a lack of funds, but that wasn’t a planned topic at tonight’s meeting.
There was good news at the meeting as the Jackson County sheriff announced that a substation will be coming to Vancleave, making life a little easier for residents. Sheriff Mike Ezell said, “You know, once they get home, they don’t want to go back to town and try to report or talk to a deputy or something like that. We’ll have somebody there. I’ll also be spending some days there in that office so that I can further meet the needs of the people out in Vancleave, get to know them a little better. It’s gonna be a big plus for Vancleave and the sheriff’s office and especially for all citizens in this area. We’re gonna try to do a lot of things and try to keep moving forward.”
Jackson County Supervisor Randy Bosarge tells News 25 he’ll be reaching out to MDOT next week to discuss a meeting regarding the Hwy 57 bypass project.
