As developers still seek approval on the recently denied casino sites in Biloxi and Diamondhead, local business owners have mixed feelings about the possibility of adding another casino to the Coast.
A representative with RW Development tells News 25 they are looking at whether or not to file an appeal after the Mississippi Gaming Commission ruled against allowing casinos on the two different properties.
With a restaurant in the Hard Rock casino and a restaurant in downtown Biloxi, Kevin Fish, the owner of Half Shell Oyster House, says he has conflicting opinions about a possible casino being built in Biloxi. “We own the restaurant that we’re standing in front of and even if that increases the traffic flow one percent or two percent, it’s a good thing for us. I think that other local merchants, the other restaurants, hotels, gas stations around us would feel that way, but also I own a restaurant inside a casino. If it takes away from that casino then I’m afraid it may take away from my sales in that restaurant.”
Developers with RW Development’s site on US 90 at Veterans in Biloxi and Jacobs Entertainment’s site in Diamondhead refiled applications last year and were recently denied again.
