After slumping their way through the first three weeks of the season, the Biloxi Shuckers turned it on in late April, winning 12 of the next 15 games. Today they once again found themselves riding a three game losing streak, looking to get one back from the first place Mississippi Braves.
The Shuckers were just two games back of the top spot heading into this early morning affair between the Mississippi Braves and third place Shuckers. Shuckers third baseman Blake Allemand said, “Yeah, that’s big for us. I think we’re doing a better job of staying within ourselves, not trying to hit a grand slam every time, just taking what the pitcher gives us and having a good at-bat and keeping the line moving and we were able to put more runs up that way so that was a good job.”
Shuckers Manager Mike Guerrero said, “The last three games we’ve made it tough on us. Instead of making 27 outs we’re doing 33, 34 outs. That’s always tough for any team trying to win.”
The Shuckers hang on to win this one by the final count of 6-3.
The Shuckers close out their series with the Braves tomorrow at 6:35 p.m.
