2nd Annual Casting for Conservation Children's Fishing Tournament
Coastal Conservation Association Mississippi (CCA MS) will host the 2nd Annual Casting for Conservation Children's Fishing Tournament on Saturday, June 7, 2008, at the Gulfport Harbor. Children ages 6 to 13 are invited to participate and registration is free. Registration begins at 7:30 a.m., followed by educational sessions, fishing from the piers and seawalls at Gulfport Harbor, and concludes at about 11:30 a.m. with refreshments, prizes and surprises for each participant.

This is a catch-and-release tournament - no fish will be weighed. Children must be accompanied by a responsible adult and should bring their own fishing gear. Bait will be furnished.

This event pulls together community resources from across the Coast with funding provided by the Department of Marine Resources (DMR). Major sponsors include Academy Sports + Outdoors, Coast Coca-Cola, Domino's Pizza, Killer Bee Bait and West Marine. Volunteers from Gulf Coast Research Laboratory, DMR, Mississippi Wildlife Federation and CCA MS are participating to make this a fun and fulfilling event for kids. The City of Gulfport and Harrison County have made the facility and tent available.

The first Casting for Conservation children's tournament drew 75 children last June and a substantial increase is in store for the tournament this year.

Come join us and learn about fish in our waters, fishing techniques, casting and safety. Learn and experience what it means to conserve our marine environment and resources.
