George Ohr’s 151st Birthday Celebration Members of the Ohr-O’Keefe Museum of Art’s Mad Potter Society will celebrate George Ohr’s 151st birthday on Saturday, July 12, from 7 to 9 p.m. IP Casino Resort and Spa is sponsoring the event with picnic fare, entertainment and a light show on the Ohr Pods. Membership in the museum is open to everyone; information is available at www.georgeohr.org. Non-members can pay at the north gate of the site at 386 Beach Boulevard in Biloxi: $15.10 per couple; $8 per person. Members, of course, are admitted free. Mr. Ohr himself will be there, and Eugene Eash of the IP will provide entertainment. Guests are encouraged to bring lawn chairs. The event will be held rain or shine. This will be the first major event at the Ohr site since the IP announced a one million dollar donation for the new Exhibitions Gallery. The team roping event will take place on the Complex Grounds throughout the weekend. With over $40,000 in cash and prizes award it is a sure bet that many cowboys and cowgirls will ascend on the facility for their chance to win. During the two-day event HD Productions will award 20 fully tooled trophy saddles, 20 trophy breast collars along with some cold hard cash. Last year, more than 950 teams were on hand throughout the two days competing for their chance at the wonderful HD Productions prize line. “ The weekend gets underway Friday night with a Warm-Up Roping followed by a #12 roping on Saturday and the #10 roping on Sunday. Each roping is handicapped and you will be able to pick or draw your partners. The fastest 50 teams will advance to the short go. In each division 1st-5th will receive trophy saddles and cash, 6th –10th will receive trophy breast collars and cash. The books open at 8:00 am and the roping starts at 10:00 am each day. There will be a dummy roping for the children on Saturday starting at 2:00 pm. Cowboy Church Services will be Sunday at 7:30 am.
