Running enthusiasts, get ready to “soak up the run” in December for the first ever Mississippi Gulf Coast Marathon.
The marathon is set for December 9th through December 11th. The three day coastal running fest is full of events such as a running expo at the convention center, a kid’s race, a 5K on Saturday plus a half and full marathon on Sunday. The half marathon will start in Gulfport. The full marathon will start in Pass Christian. Both will end in Biloxi.
It’s a weekend sure to be filled with all things running plus it brings a nice economic impact to the Coast as well. Event director Pat Fellows said, “We’ve done some studies in Baton Rouge in over the five years that we’ve been around. We’re between ten and 12 million dollars’ worth of economic impact just for our weekends alone. So, it’s a big deal. Our first year, our goals are to hit between two and three thousand on the low side and then we probably think we can build it to a five to ten thousand person race over three to five years.”
Registration begins on Thursday, March 17th. For more information, visit msgulfcoastmarathon.com.
