Today jury selections continue as one Coast man starts his new murder trial after being released on bond over two years ago.
In 2011, then 71-year-old Harvill Richardson was found guilty of murder and sentenced to life in prison. The life sentence was for a 2009 altercation Richardson had with his then roommate, 55-year-old Rudy Quilon, at Richardson’s home that led to Richardson shooting Quilon in the stomach. Quilon would later die from his injuries.
In 2014, the Mississippi Supreme Court ordered a new trial and ruled the trial judge had made a mistake by not allowing Richardson’s attorney to use self-defense as a defense argument.
Richardson’s attorney, Michael Crosby, says he will not only fight for a fair trial for Richardson, but also for him to be reimbursed for the time he spent behind bars.
Opening statements and witness testimony are set to begin tomorrow.
