For the first time, the Mississippi USA Gymnastics Association is competing along the Gulf Coast.
Over 680 gymnasts are here representing over 20 clubs throughout the state. Some are competing to earn a spot on the team representing Mississippi at the USAG Region 8 meet in Mobile, Alabama.
At the same time, the highest level gymnasts will be competing to earn the opportunity to compete individually in Greensboro, North Carolina in April with a chance to move on to the national meet, hoping to prove that their hard work is paying off. Mississippi State Chair Cynthia Dedeaux said, “It’s very difficult, very time consuming. The upper level gymnasts, like I said 25-30 hours a week. They miss homecomings and proms and social gatherings. They just can’t go because they have to train. They train six days a week.”
The competition continues tonight for levels nine and ten gymnasts who will be competing to qualify to go to North Carolina.
