Even for a gymnast as good as Sarah Edwards raising the bar is always a possibility. Tonight, the future LSU Tiger did just that at the final state meet of her high school career.
It was an emotional start to the evening for Edwards who was given a proper send-off prior to the competition by her coaches at Lanier’s Gymnastics. Once things got rolling, the 4’11” senior from Ocean Springs was locked in. She earned 9.7 out of 10, her best score ever as a level 10 gymnast. “I was sobbing before. They were doing senior announcements and I was crying because my coach just did this amazing speech, and then I landed a 9.7 vault, the highest of my career this year, and I was just ecstatic,” said Edwards.
Lanier’s Gymnastics Owner Cindy Wallace said, “Really, just how much I’m going to miss her. And how much our team is going to miss her. She is a great encourager to all the other girls, and I know that they’re all going to miss her.”
Next up for Edwards is regional competition in Wilmington, North Carolina.
As for the Mississippi Gymnastics State Meet, this weekend marks the first time it’s ever been held in Biloxi.
