Going into the weekend, an upper low is forecast to drop southeastward from the Rockies toward the Middle Mississippi Valley. This low will force a cold front into and through the area Saturday afternoon into early Sunday. Thunderstorms are expected along and ahead of this front and while a few strong storms will be possible, the risk of severe weather looks limited to areas to our north at this time.
Behind the front, expect significant cooling with temperatures dropping to near or below normal for a day or two. Sunday afternoon temperatures currently look to top out around 70 degrees most places. Unfortunately the cooler than normal temperatures will really only last a day as a gradual warming trend brings temperatures back to near normal Monday afternoon and Monday night and then a couple degrees above normal again by Tuesday.
