After spending the spring semester in Lorman, former Gulfport quarterback Cleveland Ford has decided that Alcorn State is not the place for him.
Late last night, the dual-threat speedster made his decision known on Twitter, citing “recent events” as his reason for transferring.
According to the Sun Herald, several Alcorn football players were involved in a fight in the school cafeteria a little more than a week ago.
Ford tells News 25 the incident left his family worried for his safety in that kind of environment. He’s now looking into going the JuCo route with several junior colleges and even Division I schools already having reached out to him.
All-in-all a fresh start for the former Admiral, but a hard life decision nonetheless. “It’s tough, you know? Just because like I said, I love Alcorn. This was a school I wanted to be at for the next four years. I could have went bigger, but I chose to come here. I love the atmosphere, I love the culture that was surrounding it but things just didn’t work out. I’m ready to adapt, get to a new environment, get somewhere where I’m comfortable where I feel like I can thrive in their system. JuCo just gives me another chance to get reevaluated, so I’m excited about that. See what schools come through, and just keep a lookout where I might end up in the future,” said Ford.
Ford tells News 25 he hopes to have his mind made up sometime in May.
