The Moss Point alderman for Ward 1 will be decided after the runoff election takes place.
The Democratic Executive Committee had a recount of votes from Tuesday’s primary election. Committee officials tell News 25 municipal candidates James Smith and Sherwood Bradford requested for a recount of votes after their close election results. Originally the two were just one vote away from each other for Ward 1 alderman. After the recount, the candidates tied.
Officials on Moss Point’s Democratic Executive Committee say it’s all about keeping city residents satisfied. Moss Point Democratic Executive Committee President Mattie Holloway said, “If you lose by one to five, maybe even 10, it may be something that you want to look into, just to be sure. Absentee and affidavits are hand counted. We just want to make sure the count is correct and the candidates and voters are pleased with our efforts.”
There was no changes in any of the other election results from the vote recount.
