Help is on the way for hundreds of local adult students in need who are working hard for better futures.
A check presentation in Jackson County today kicked off the start of a program providing needed support to adult students at Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College. The Wrap around Support Fund is for adults aiming to complete high school equivalency or job skills training that are lacking basic necessities.
A man who is now a truck driver thanks to the program tells News 25 the help he received was life-changing. Commercial Truck Driver Christopher Schultz said, “Getting a physical and taking a drug test and even just being able to purchase the license, taking the testing at the DMV.”
2nd Chance Mississippi Executive Director Zach Scruggs said, “We’ve all seen it work all over Mississippi.We work with all 15 of Mississippi’s community colleges.” “My life is changed. I have a career other than a job.”
2nd Chance Mississippi, the Bacot McCarty Foundation and Chevron all made initial contributions of five thousand dollars to start the fund.
