A wreath was laid by members of the Mississippi chapter of the American Legion to honor our veterans.
Dozens of veterans, first responders, and Gautier community members gathered under the Veterans Tribute Tower to salute our nation’s veterans.
The Veterans Day celebration included speeches from many veterans and the theme of the day was to pay respect to those who paid the ultimate price fighting for our freedom. Bill Whatley with Mississippi American Legion said, “You only have one percent of the population that served in the military. There’s only ten percent of veterans in America. So, think about that number and the sacrifice that these men and women make on behalf of this nation. It is an honor for us to be out here and honor our veterans today.”
Members of the Mississippi chapter of the American Legion told News 25 that they aim to honor veterans every day since they are all veterans themselves.
