The Mississippi Highway Patrol is investigating a fatal crash in Jackson County that claimed the life of one man. The accident occurred on Highway 63 southbound near Highway 614 around 1:20 p.m. today.
The 66-year-old male of Lucedale lost control of his 2017 Nissan Sentra and went off of the right side of the road. The Nissan crashed into the back of an MDOT truck that was unoccupied and parked on the right shoulder with his emergency lights on.
An MDOT employee was outside his truck attempting to get into the bucket when he was hit and thrown to the right of the truck. The driver of the Nissan was pronounced dead at the scene from injuries sustained in the crash.
The 62-year-old MDOT employee who was outside of his truck was transported to the University of South Alabama in critical condition.
