After Saturday’s 4A State Title game between East Central and Noxubee County, Hornets Head Coach Seth Smith thanked his team for an “unbelievable ride.” Unfortunately, that ride ended with East Central’s only loss of the entire season.
It’s hard not to think about the what if’s with star running back Tony Brown going down early in the second quarter with a dislocated shoulder. Prior to that, he already had more than 100 yards and two touchdowns which gave him 50 total scores for the whole year.
The Hornets still held a two-touchdown lead as late as the third quarter, but the Tigers finished the game on a 20-nothing run to claim their third championship in the last four years.
East Central closes out 2017 with an overall record of 13-1 and it’s first ever South State crown.
