Today the Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College held an open house for the Early Childhood Academy Resource Library.
The resource library is located at the college’s Jefferson Davis campus and is a joint project of MGCCC and the Mississippi Community College Board. The library is available for all childcare providers and families across the Coast.
It carries books, educational toys, and games as well as a variety of other educational resources tailored for children up to eight-years-old. MGCCC Early Childhood Academy Supervisor Pamela Jones said, “I think the main mission for the Early Childhood Academy is to make sure we are providing training for all the providers out there working with children every day. We want them to know that they have a resource that they can come to to get anything they need, help with children, equipment, anything like that.”
Early Childhood Academy Director Dr. Micca Knox said, “This resource is also open to families, so families can come here, check out resources, they can bring their kids here to the center with them and engage with the staff on various activities. So this is a huge benefit for the community because we know teaching starts at home, and these are free resources that parents can use with their kids at home.”
The Early Childhood Academy Library will be open Monday through Thursday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and Fridays from 8:30 a.m. until 3 p.m.
