As we begin to experience more of the colder weather, the Salvation Army is now opening up their cold weather shelters for the homeless.
There are two locations: one in Pascagoula which is open all year round and one in Gulfport which is open today through Sunday for the extreme weather. At each location, the Salvation Army is providing beds, cots, and hot meals for each person in need.
Morgan Shiyou with the Salvation Army explains the Pascagoula location is at their maximum capacity, but they will not turn anyone away. “We like to provide a safe place for the homeless or anybody in need, just to get out of the cold weather, get a warm bite to eat and this gives them hope and hope that there’s a better tomorrow and a better future and just gives them a little bit of help.”
It is also the season of giving and the Salvation Army is in need of volunteers to help out at the cold weather shelters. If you’d like to devote your time, you can apply to volunteer on their website.
