Temperatures across the Mississippi Power service territory are expected to hover in the 30s and 40s the next few days.
Mississippi Power wants their customers to know that they are ready to meet the expected increase in demand. They wanted to offer a few energy saving tips for users during this chilly weather.
Some of those tips are to keep your thermostat at 68 degrees, make sure doors and windows are sealed properly to keep cold air out, and to change the filter in your heating system once a month to improve the efficiency.
Jeff Shepard with Mississippi Power said, “From a holiday standpoint, you know, folks are having their big light displays at their houses, use LED lighting. They use about 70 percent less energy and they are much more energy efficient than incandescent bulbs and set a timer. Have them come on around 5:30 when it gets dark and have them go off around 10:30, 11 when you and the rest of the neighborhood are asleep and there is nobody out really driving the streets looking at lights.”
Mississippi Power also wants to remind people when using electric space heaters to not leave them unattended and keep them away from clothing, bedding, and curtains.
