A Steady stream of light to moderate rain continues in a southwest to west upper level flow pattern. Radar shows most of the rain fairly light with some pockets of heavier rain. A cold front in the Midwest will push south into our area tonight and into Friday morning and bring another push of very cold air. The front should enter the state this afternoon and be at our door step Friday morning.

The forecast challenge is where the advancing cold air meets up with the moisture that has brought us rain over the last few days. It is this area that could see some forms of WINTER precipitation. Looked at few parameters overnight to figure where the greatest chance where rain will turn to sleet then snow Thursday night into Friday morning. Forecast soundings SUPPORT SNOW as does various models. A WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY has been issued for tonight through tomorrow morning. Areas north of Lake Pontchartrain from Baton Rouge to the Mississippi Coast northward could see some transition to snow. Impacts in the way of accumulation is as uncertain as the forecast at this point. So far little in the way of ground accumulation is expected, however some grassy areas and elevated surfaces and roadways could see some light accumulation before returning to rain during the afternoon before ending.
